Pewter polishes to a high shine and also takes on different surface textures easily such as a hammered effect. Pewter consists mainly of tin with a small amount of added copper and antimony. Unlike the old pewter the modern metal does not contain lead which means it retains its colour and does not tarnish, unlike other metals. It also means its safe for use with food and drink.
Ella only uses Pewter which comes from a supplier which has been regulated by the Association of British Pewter Craftsmen, Sheffield. Ella is a member of this Association which regulates the industry and makes sure a high standard of pewterware is being produced that conforms with EU and British regulations. She is also recognized by The Worshipful Company of Pewterers, London as a practising Pewterer and Designer through their Pewter Live Competitions, for more information on awards won please see Galleries/Exhibitions Page.
Care Instructions:
To maintain Pewter it can be washed in warm soapy water then dried straight away with a soft cloth to prevent water marks drying on the surface. A gentle silver polish or silver polishing cloth can also be used on pewter to maintain the surface, especially if you have puchased a highly polished item.
Pewter is not suitable for dishwashers.
